Where Autumn Sleeps
A quiet lake opens between dense woodland beneath a pale blue-grey sky. Along its banks, trees touched with ochre, muted gold and deep green lean towards the water, their colours dissolving into softened reflections below.
The surface of the lake appears to hold the landscape in suspension. Trees, light and sky are repeated in the water, yet the reflection is not an exact image—it is quieter, less certain, as though the lake were preserving a fading memory of the season.
Through broad, textured brushstrokes, Mária Bodrogi allows the forms of the landscape to shift between clarity and abstraction. The trees seem stirred by a distant wind, while their reflections remain caught in stillness. In Where Autumn Sleeps, the lake becomes a resting place for everything that is about to disappear: warmth, colour and the final light before winter.
