The Last Clearing

A narrow path emerges beneath towering pines, leading towards a small opening at the edge of the forest. Warm light touches the slender trunks and deep green foliage, while an expansive blue-grey sky rises above the shadowed woodland.

In The Last Clearing, the landscape appears suspended at a threshold. The path remains visible, but only for a little longer; beyond the clearing, its direction becomes uncertain. The familiar world ends quietly here, at the point where light gives way to the unknown.

Through confident, textured brushwork, Mária Bodrogi captures the forest not simply as a place, but as a moment of choice. The clearing may offer refuge, or it may be the final pause before continuing deeper among the trees. Nothing in the painting reveals what lies beyond—only that the path is waiting.
