Silence made of Water

A broad, quiet river winds between trees touched with the muted golds and russets of autumn. Beneath an expansive blue-grey sky, the water gathers the softened colours of the surrounding landscape, holding them in an almost motionless reflection.

The surface appears calm, yet it conceals a current that continues beyond sight. In A Silence Made of Water, stillness is not the absence of movement, but a moment in which movement becomes invisible. The river carries time forward without revealing where it has come from or where it will go.

Through delicate vertical lines and layered, expressive brushwork, Mária Bodrogi explores the fragile boundary between the visible landscape and its reflection. Trees, sky and water begin to dissolve into one another, as though the world has briefly forgotten which side of the surface it belongs to. What remains is a quiet space suspended between two seasons, two shores and two moments in time.
